ob体育 has signed a Consultation Agreement (Agreement) with the Financial Markets Standards Board (FMSB) to promote global standards for fair and effective wholesale financial markets. The Agreement formalises ob体育鈥檚 active interest in the development of global industry standards.听听
ob体育 Chair Joseph Longo said, 鈥榦b体育 welcomes the Agreement between ob体育 and the FMSB. This Agreement will help us engage with the FMSB to promote good wholesale market practices.鈥听
鈥榦b体育 is committed to ensuring Australia鈥檚 financial markets are fair and efficient, and those who provide financial services demonstrate fairness, honesty and professionalism,鈥 concluded Mr Longo.听
Fixed income, currencies and commodities (FICC) markets underpin and drive growth in Australia鈥檚 real economy. Given the global and interconnected nature of FICC markets, FMSB standards are relevant to Australian market intermediaries as they seek a global level playing field and benchmark their practices against industry peers.听
While industry standards do not replace obligations under Australian law, the development and promotion of good industry standards can supplement principle-based laws and drive robust operational practices among market intermediaries.听听
The Agreement will facilitate the FMSB鈥檚 consultation with ob体育 in the development of draft guidance and other publications, and provide ob体育 with periodic updates on the FMSB鈥檚 strategy. While the Agreement enables ob体育 to observe open sessions of certain FMSB meetings, it does not constitute ob体育鈥檚 implicit or explicit endorsement of FMSB鈥檚 publications.听听
